It's safe to say that this isn't my first blog post. In fact, I have two other classes this semester that I have to post on Blogger as well. Anyway, I had a personal Blogger once. I had it for a bit until I moved to WordPress, which I think is a better blogging platform than Blogger. I feel like you can do more with a WordPress blog, but even that blog seemed to fail to hold my interest. Now just thinking about those blogs, I wonder if they still exists, because I rarely delete anything off of the internet. I always wonder if I should, but then I think about it and figure, well nothing really gets delete off of the internet.
Online, I go by the name ariestrash. In fact, if you Google that, you'll probably find everything I've ever done online. I'm not sure that's a good thing or not, but it's quite amazing how I was able to come up with an online alias and make it just my own. I've kind of monopolized it in a sense. Gmail, Yahoo, Twitter, AOL, Facebook, Tumblr....ariestrash is mine on all of them. There are other sites as well, but that name will be taken if I'm on it. I like the idea of being able to Google a name and information about you comes up. I mean, how many of you have tried Googling your name to see if you--something about you--comes up?
(Admit it. You've done that before!)
Anyway, I took this class because I love the internet. I'm on it practically 24/7. It's like an extra part of my brain or something. I don't know what I was expecting from this class. I usually tend to register for classes that seem interesting to me, just by the title of it. I've taken a computer science class before where I learned about the origin of computers and the internet, but I suppose with the whole SOPA and PIPA nonsense happening, I figure the class might get really interesting now that those things have come full force to light. This is Internet + Society. I guess I'm looking forward to the how the internet affected society part of the class the most.
