Hello Everybody,
How's it going? My name is Jerry Tan and I am currently a junior majoring (acceptance pending) in Nutrition and Food Science with a minor in Media Studies. I was previously accepted into the Nursing program at Hunter, but I decided that it was not a passion of mine. When I'm not in school, I teach/tutor, listen to/play music, engage in sports/physical activity, and do drugs.
I'm tired of lying to people who ask me about my personal life, so I'm going to come clean.
See, it all got started with something called in Internet and the World Wide Web - these media are my gateway drugs. With both of these resources so readily accessable, life has become efficient. Mail has become paperless, research does not necessarily require opening physical copies of books, and phone calls can be made to anyone around the world for free!
Whenever I feel like having a good laugh, or want to relax from all the stresses that are in my life, I turn to marijuana - which is my moniker for YouTube. Film has become a very important tool for today's society - in a different way. YouTube has served as a vehicle for many filmmakers, musicians, and other creative entities to showcase their talent(s) to the inter-web. Almost all kinds of videos of events are documented on YouTube - from the No Pants Subway Ride, to Foo Fighters concerts, and How-To videos.
Facebook is my cocaine. I cannot live without it. If you do not own a Facebook, then you are the ultimate non-conformist. There is no better social networking website than Facebook, and I do not see it becoming obsolete for a very long time.
Lastly, I never thought I'd get into heroin, but during this past winter vacation, I did. 9gag is a website full of internet memes. Users submit Photoshopped images that go through a voting process, and if the picture receives enough votes, it will make the front page of the website. Once you start browsing on the website, you'll notice later on how much time you've wasted just looking at pictures! All of these memes eventually become modern vernacular or drive the course of a discussion.
Well, that's it for my test post! I look forward to a great semester ahead.
