Hi everyone. My name is Ann and I am a graduating senior majoring in English, Creative Writing. I am also an avid job seeker. With graduation approaching and no promise of a full-time job in the “real world,” I find myself actively searching and applying for jobs. Where do I find job postings and how do I apply for such jobs, you might ask? The only way that I know how—the internet.
Here is a brief description of my process: browse through job postings on job search engines websites such as www.indeed.com and www.usajobs.gov, select a desired potential job, contact the employer directly via email, attach a resume and cover letter, and click send. The entire process can take less than 15 minutes. And I never have to leave the comfort of my own home!
It’s surprising to think that twenty years ago, job seekers needed the classified section of the newspaper, resume paper, envelopes and stamps. I can't imagine a world without the internet. Now that I think of it, I never buy the newspaper—I read the news online. I don't know what resume paper looks like. I’ve never even purchased stamps at the post office. Today's internet has made the job search incredibly accessible and easy. I'm looking forward to learning how the internet has evolved to such a degree.
