blogging assignment 3.5

John Canemaker’s short animations, The Moon and the Sun and Confessions of a Star Dreamer were short emotion based animations. Both animations consisted of realistic cartoon figures that were accompanied by vocal actors or vocal recordings. The clips brought forth a huge amount of emotion and tension in their clips and often bring out a huge emotional range from their characters in the clips. In Confessions of a Star Dreamer, the main actress’ personality is depicted through exaggerated animated clips to put more of an emphasis on her personality traits. Her exuberant personality was often followed by animations of her body to figure, morphing into the words that she was saying. Similarly, in The Moon and the Sun, the entire story line depicted the anger that Canemaker holds against his father and the pain from re-telling the story.
The cartoon look of the clips has a double effect on the clips. It keeps the feeling a bit lighter than a regular film would; the cartoon keeps it comical and somewhat child-like. However, the cartoon figures were most effective in telling a story that could not be depicted in other ways. An interview of a celebrity who is full of herself would only be annoying and redundant to viewers. However, through the cartoon, Cane maker was able to turn it comical. In The Moon and the Sun, the cartoons were able to depict at least a story that was never real, but could come to life to the viewers.
