Politics on the Internet

In the old days before the internet life was simpler. People who were running for office, or who were already in office and wanted to get some attention went on the radio or the television to broadcast their ideas. These days the pesky internet is always getting in the way by providing information that these politicians didn't want out in the open. It is both a wonderful and horrible thing. For the general public it is amazing, we learn way more then we would of about people in the political world, and at the same time get to form a semi informed opinion about said person. The negative aspect of this is from the politicians point of view, these days their whole life is scrutinized, every penny they spent, any person they slept with, any speech they slipped up in. All of these things and more can come back to haunt them.

Back in the old days a politician could do whatever they wanted, they could sleep around, be extremely corrupt, even run gangs, and none of the general public would be the wiser. Want to know why? Because the politicians controlled the media. If you hadn't already guessed, I am talking about Boss Tweed. The guy freaking ran the city, he had money, power, respect, and was insanely corrupt. He went on like this for years upon years, eventually he got caught but who cares, the dude lived the dream!

People these days post a random complaint about some politician or another and think they have done their duty as an active member of the United States. If we really wanted to make a difference we would need to mobilize and use our media outlets as our way of doing it. Youth is an amazing volatile force, if we could learn to harness our power, and channel it though media outlets, we could steer the future of our society onto a brighter, better path. I hope one day these dreams can become a reality, until then i'm going to go post a complaint about Ron Paul, Adios muchachos
