Good Online Content vs. Bad Online Content

In Brian Clark’s reading , the author talks about how to write good online content. Clark explains how search engines work, and how to get to rank your online content the way you want. Furthermore he goes on to explain the effectiveness of SEO Copyrighting and not doing so can result in getting only “long tail” traffic. Clark goes on to explain the 5 essential elements of search engine keyword research. Furthermore Clark says that once you have keyword knowledge that: “ You’re speaking the language of the audience and satisfying their needs”- ( Clark , 8). Which means that your actually speaking to the audience you want to reach. It is also imperative that when writing on a website that your specific about what your trying to convey and not confuse your visitors. Using your keyword phrase in your title tag will facilitate the viewer reading experience. Getting people to link back to your site is also a great way to get more traffic. Clark says: “The way to create compelling content is to focus relentlessly on “ what’s in it for the reader”. And in the same way, no one is going link to you unless there is something in it for them” (Clark, 14). It is really beneficial to get your site on an aggregator niche site so that it can flow the right kind of traffic to you. Clark explains that not only you need to create original compelling content that people would want to search but also getting linked to your site makes your site more credible to search engines such as Google. I found this to be a good and interesting website is the Vincent Moon blog : it says what the website is about in the header right away, Vincent is a filmographer. The video clips are organized in the sense that you see them all and if you pass the cursor on an image of a clip it has a description. So the website isn’t cluttered or confusing but pretty straight forward. I also think the LadyGunn website is an example of good content because it is organized in different sections such as : music , fashion, health & beauty etc. and upon clicking the links you immediately get a preview of different articles with images, so everything is organized and you know what your getting into upon entering the site. If you click on the about us you will know what the site is about so there is no confusion. I think an obvious example of a bad website is the xerox website, since its also listed in top 20 worst websites of 2011. There is a lot going on on the site with the flash, bouncing images and annoying sounds. Going to that site is like going to the DMV, it sucks. Another bad website is Myspace , I mean aren’t people over it already? I guess not. The graphics and design are just bad. The site needs a total make over. Also WordPress took me a while to understand because its very confusing and there just is no easy way to navigate the site. If you can’t navigate a site with ease then it’s a bad site. Good sites should be clear, simple, and easy to navigate without so much clutter and confusion.
