What is the good online writing and bad online writing?

What is online writing? Is it a part of social networking? –Yes.

In “How You Will Change the World with Social Networking, Deanna Zandt defines social media’s main theme is sharing something with other people and the result is so affective that even it is a small issue such as a breakfast menu you ate in the morning can change the world. To explain the cause of the social networking, Zandt cites Clive Thompson’s term, “ambient awareness” as a sociological view and Ted.com’s “mirror neuron” as a psychological view. Ambient Awareness is that through the sharing, we are becoming to recognize other’s existence in passive way. Mirror neurons are subsets of other more main neurons that are turned on when we see another person doing a particular action. Mirror neurons make us put ourselves in the other person’s place and sends signals to the rest of the body evoking empathy of the action. Zandt says is important because we are doing our best to shape how we appear in the online space. In the social networking, we can easily enter our values, experience, and stories into the conversations. By sharing our stories, we can experience our experience turn to combine with other’s experiences creating the more resources that make content richer. Therefore, the social networking needs us to be there and the sharing gives benefits not only to the social network itself but also to our experience.  In social media, everybody is the leader. By sharing little bit of everything, it builds communities and hence it changes the world.

How can we find online writing to look for specific interest? – Yes, we use search engines.

In “How to Create Compelling Content That Ranks Well in Search Engines, Brian Clark explains about SEO (Search Engine Optimization) copyright.  Search Engine Optimization is very essential for web sites because search is the most common online activity and searchers are those who are willing to open a website.
It explains that, search engine works basically through process of crawling, indexing, and ranking. Search engine “spiders” crawl around web to look for contents, index the contents by storing browsed giant database, and rank delivered results upon the relevancy of the search.  Thus, the website should understand the research tools and have decent content resources with specific keywords with relevant combinations that correspond to the website’s goal.  The decent content resources can be called cornerstone contents. Corner stone content should be useful and relevancy as well as compelling and comprehensive.  Corner stone content should have good appropriate keywords, title tags, and headline relating to the content. Content landing page needs to be designed to communicate with visitors as soon as possible in order to achieve the benefits of retention, bookmarks and sharing, links, and optimization.
To be detected by search engines, off-page elements are very important. It is shown in the graph of the Components of Google’s Ranking Algorithm. It says 22.33% responses to the site because of the link to a specific page, and 20.26% are because of anchor text link to other sites. Clarks suggests five link building strategies that work well. One is to use social media new sites as a rapidest way to get a lot of attention for the content. Two is guest writing. By linking out to other websites by guest, it creates a complex links, but with a related themes, from one to others. Thus, it benefits the readers and the cornerstone contents at the same time. Social networking also helps for link building. Social networking exposes the contents as links and share with people. Once the shared contents catch attention of people, more and more people share the links through the social networking. Moreover, Linking out to relevant sites are also helpful to attract links and making sure of clear article directories is required.

Now, I define good online writing that has rich content and evokes pleasure to share. I brought two examples of the good online writing: One is Ceramicstoday and the other is Artforum.
Even though the content landing page of Ceramicstoday is designed so simple, majorly with texts, I love this website because it has so rich contents.  Ceramicstoday was set up in 1995 and it was the earliest ceramics sites on WWW(World Wide Web) as Claynet. It evolved as the website selected worthy links, writing articles and answering reader’s questions. When you click the article, very informative articles about main content, which is ceramics, show up with relevant pictures and links. Writers do not use fancy words that confuses the readers and just conveys information in a neat way. When I used to do the ceramics, I was always excited when I read the articles and I tried out the technique I see. Since I was taking the basic course of the Ceramics, it affected me a lot. Whenever I found something interesting there, I shared it with my class mates and professor. Artforum has visually amuse-able content landing page comparing Ceramicstoday. It is a website that has similar purpose to Ceramicstoday but it covers various genre of art in a newer way. The main page has diverse contents that introduce many different art works. It is designed text-based for easy search and also sections are divided by topic for easy look. I love this website because of great informative resources they offer. Each content has outside links resources for further information so I can surf here to there linking out covering lots of contents. In addition, they have "Talkback" menu so it is easy to see how people react to which articles at a glance.

Here are the bad online writing examples: Perezhilton and Richdadcoaching
Perezhilton is a good example of the social networking. It is one of the popular blog in these days. However, I find the content is so week. I know it is a gossip site, which is not reliable. However, I still wonder where the writer gets all the information. Most of the post does not have any resources that where the story came from or relevant links about the post. Moreover, I find lots of pictures are very irrelevant to the topic of the post. For example, Kardashian divorcing news updating has a picture of Kardashian with her big breast emphasized. The picture looked like writer just took an image from Google.
Richdadcoaching is about how you can make money. I can see so many keywords about "make money," "rich," or "help" kind of stuff however when you really tries to go through the reading, you would not get how they will make you make money. It is more about "buy" or "taking sessions." There is media contents that shows about success story, it is still unclear how it worth or how it helped them. It seemed that they do not have reliable contents that are strong enough to support their issue and it will help if they do have feed back pages from people, not made-out-look-like success story the videos.
