Generativity

What generative mean is that users could write new codes for a certain program or install code written by others. There are pros and cons when talking about generative net. The pros about a program or a computer being generative is that it encourages users to be innovative. They can add or subtract the things they want or don't want in their own personal computer. The cons about a computer being generative is that since everyone can write up codes of their own, they can also create virus and malware that can attack multiple computers within seconds. Generativity is relevant to our present and the future of the internet because we've been debating if softwares/computers should be generative. Back when computers were still "new", programmers created malware to attack people's computer. They were clueless and did not know what was happening. When they found out, they wanted to have higher security or computers that won't be generative so that programmers could not manipulate it against them. In the reading, "How I Stop Worrying On App Stores", the author talks about Apple App store and Android App store. The author mentioned that Apple's store is not generative because when someone creates an app, it has to go through Apple's gate keeper, and they allow many people to create app and have it up on the store. It is important for us to have generative softwares/computers because without it, people will stop being innovative, and will stop creating new inventions.
